Puttin' It All Together

Jack and I got out an allen wrench, directions, and a considerable amount of patience and put together two pieces of furniture. We ordered a futon from a local department store. It came in two boxes and numerous pieces. It only took us one evening to assemble:

Next came a bench that I had ordered on-line. The quality of the piece was evident; however, the instructions assumed a bit of know-how! It has a hinged lid to provide access to storage. The directions simply said, "Attach hinges to lid." Duh? How!? We tried numerous configurations, and finally discovered how to attach a hinge. Now I feel like I'm on an episode of DIY for Dummies. Here's the bench with Cosi posing in the picture:

Power Outage

I haven't posted for a while because we've been experiencing an internet outage. In a snow storm a neighbor's tree feel against our house, ripping the cable line off the house. No phone. No internet access. No *gasp* TV.

On the bright side, I enjoyed watching Cosi running in the snow we got. Here's the latest Sheltie In The Snow picture:

Look closely, and you'll see all four feet are off the ground!

This house rennovation has taken on a life of its own! I'm writing this article by the light of my new desk lamp. Jack and I spent from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today choosing living room furniture, lighting (thus, the new desk lamp), and a TV console. It was fun but exhausting for me. So many choices! Leather or fabric? Print or plain? What type of finish? Then--and here's the doosie question I always dread--what color?

I've had the superb help of our designer, Margie. What a gem she is! She came up with a plan to arrange the living room furniture, ideas for color schemes, and suggestions of pieces to purchase or consider. When I would go off on a tangent saying I like this, and this, and this, she'd bring me back in the most gentle, professional way. Focus. Focus. I couldn't have done this project without her.

Now as we wait the 6-8 weeks for the furniture to get here, there are window treatments, accessories, and linens to choose. I'll be grateful when the agility season starts for me in March. At least at a trial I don't have to decide what color leash to use! LOL

Snow Dayz

Shelties love snow! Here are some favorite snow day pictures:

Cosi as it gently snows. I love how his beautiful coat is decorated with the snow flakes.

Mike ventures out in the snow. Even though it's "bad" weather, Shelties need to check the permiter of their territory!

And when it gets too deep (like it did last year), we shovel a speed circle under the A-frame and play tug and chase games!

Farm Show Part 2

After the deomo of dogs on a course, we set up a weave pole relay. There were two teams of six dogs, 3 on each end of the poles. The dogs would race--much like flyball--by going over an 8" jump, weave 12 poles, then jump over an 8" jump to release the next team member. Here's the video. Cosi ran both first and last leg on his team. We would have won, too, if the team ahead of us would have moved out of the way! (Can you tell I wanted to win!?)

Big Boy 12

January 11 - Happy 12th Birthday to Brisco.

AKC Name: MACH Bonnie's Brisco, CGC

Nicknames: Brisc, The Brisconator, The Nator, Sweet Pea

Likes: My crate, chicken, a good chase, my yard on a spring day, my Mom, agility

Dislikes: Loud places, dogs in my face, walking father than my feet will stand

Brisco did agility with his heart as he was not physically meant for the sport. He had a weak back end, bad feet, and ribs that never sprang. I am eternally grateful that we got the opportunity to play together for 6 years.

Here are some favorite pictures of my sweet Brisco.

Brisco was all packed and ready to go to work with me on National Take Your Dog To Work Day.

I love this picture. Everyone is looking at the camera, but Brisco is looking at me.

My favorite puppy picture of Brisco in his yard. Jack took this picture and captured his smile and his joy.

Farm Show

Cosi and Jack and I traveled to the Pennsylvania Farm Show today. We set up camp at the equine arena. Here's a photo of Cosi and me getting ready to run. He has his Chilly Buddy coat on because we were right next to an entrance:

Our club set two mirror courses so that two dogs could "race" and the crowd could cheer on their team. And cheer they did! The noise was deafening. I was so proud of Cosi, who took the PA system, the crowd noise, and the excitement of the event all in stride. He totally rocked his run, enjoying every minute. Here's our run:

New Toy

Cosi got a new toy from my sister for Christmas. It's fabulous. It's thick, so he can really sink his teeth into it to tug. Well, it seems Miss Jenny also likes this toy. Jenny. Who doesn't play with toys. Jenny. Who would rather have a nap than anything. Go figure. Here's pictures of Cosi posing with his new toy. And guess who wandered into the picture! Look at the expression on her face.

And here's how it ended up after I released Cosi from the sit for the photo:

Sad News

One of my Sheltie buddies (a competitor in agility who runs a number of Shelties) emailed me last night to say that cancer had taken her dog Wiley. Wiley was a great dog in that when he ran, he r.a.n. He loved life and went full tilt. Everyone smiled when Wiley ran because you could just feel his joy as he zoomed around the course.

I was very sad to hear about Wiley, and it reminds me to savor every run, every moment, and cherish my dogs while they're here. They just don't live long enough.

Go hug your dogs, people.

Pennsylvania Farm Show

It's January, so it must be Farm Show time. Our agility club, HOT Agility, was asked to conduct an agility and fly ball demo for the Farm Show again this year. We've done this for the past three years, and we usually get quite a nice crowd, cheering on the dogs. It's a lot of fun. We'll practice today and perform next Sunday, January 9.

We set up two mirror-image courses and run one dog on each course at the same time. The crowd can then cheer for their favorite dog, and we "race" to the finish, which is a table. First dog on the table "wins."

Last time Jack got video from up in the stands, a real birds-eye-view. Here's the video of our run (Cosi is the dog on the right):
